This issue comes from my very own DeLoran - as I am on maternity leave I collected some of the core lessons I have learned over the beginning of 2025.
Let’s get one thing straight…the summer slump is real. And no, it’s not your fault.
People are checked out, sipping margaritas instead of opening emails, let alone clicking “Buy now.” Between holidays, heatwaves, and school breaks, most people are in out of office mode – mentally and literally.
And honestly? I’m kind of with them.
As I was preparing for my own summer slowdown (now that Flo is here, I am embracing maternity leave 👶), I’ve been rethinking how we treat this season in business.
Here’s the kicker though – while I may be slowing down personally, behind the scenes we’re gearing up for something BIG.
My next book Customer-Driven Marketing Handbook is coming out this December, and I’m using these quieter months to lay the groundwork for a strong end to the year.
Because the truth is, summer doesn’t have to mean sales go quiet. If you know how to use it strategically, it can become your secret weapon.
Let’s talk about how.
👩🏫 Lesson of the week
Now, I get it. Not everyone has the same energy going into summer: especially when your inbox is overflowing, your brain is melting, and your to-do list looks like it needs its own Trello board.
Behind the scenes, this is exactly what we’re doing. The team is deep in prep mode for our September accelerator launch and finalising a calendar packed with live events and collaborations for autumn.
We’re also stepping back to rethink our content strategy, asking ourselves how we can serve even better – and more boldly – in this next season.
So let me offer a few paths depending on what season of business (or life) you’re in right now:
Low-Energy, High-Impact
If you’re feeling burnt out or your capacity is lower (hello, fellow humans), this is your time to clean up the back-end.
Audit your funnels
Refresh your email sequences
Update your website or bios
Organise your content library
Tip: Focus on the stuff that helps future you breathe easier come September.
Creative and Reflective
Want to tap into the slower pace and do some dreaming? This is a great season for brand building and market research.
Interview your audience
Run surveys or polls
Map out your next offer or pivot
Dive into frameworks like brand archetypes or customer journeys
Bold and Visible
Got more energy and visibility feels fun? Pour your effort into relationship-building and storytelling content.
Go behind the scenes
Start a light summer email series
Host a free event or mini training
Test new social content styles or platforms
Growth-Oriented
Planning something big for the end of the year? Use this time to prep your launch assets like a pro.
Batch content
Build waitlists
Warm up your audience with value-driven touchpoints
Start pre-launch teasers in August
You don’t have to do everything. You just have to do the things that will matter most when your audience is ready to say “yes” again in September.
Your Summer Plan
There’s no one-size-fits-all approach to making the most of summer – but there is a way to make it work for you.
Here are three different ways you can structure your next three months depending on your capacity, energy, and goals:
Option 1: One Focus Per Month
Break your summer into three clear phases:
June is all about building relationships and offering value
July is for behind-the-scenes work and refining your systems
August is for warming up your audience and preparing to launch
This option works beautifully if you thrive on structure and want to build momentum slowly but surely.
Option 2: One Deep Dive
Pick one big priority – whether that’s rethinking your offer, creating a new content strategy, or setting up a fall campaign – and use the entire summer to deep dive into that.
No multitasking, no scattering your focus. Just one clear goal and all your energy behind it.
Option 3: Alternate Energy & Output
Not every month has to be on. Try alternating:
One month focused on rest, reflection, or content experiments
One month for planning or prepping your launch or campaign This keeps your energy more sustainable while still making serious progress.
No matter your approach, the goal is the same: make summer work for you now, so you’re not scrambling in September.
