This issue comes from my very own DeLoran - as I am on maternity leave I collected some of the core lessons I have learned over the beginning of 2025.

For the longest time, I used to treat our course content like a secret recipe. Only students who enrolled could get a taste: no peeking, no previews, nada.

I thought that was the smart thing to do. Protect the goods. Keep it exclusive. Make it feel high-value.

But then… we did something wild at Alt Marketing School.

We opened the gates.

We started showing exactly what was inside our curriculum. Shared real sneak peeks. Gave away free lesson previews.

Let people browse like they were testing out a Netflix docuseries.

That’s what lead to more sign-ups, buzz and ultimately trust.

🏫 Class in session

Let’s clear the air: people aren’t paying for more information.

They’re paying for:

  • Clarity - “Just tell me what actually matters.”

  • Speed – “How can I do this faster?”

  • Accountability - “Make sure I don’t ghost myself halfway through.”

  • Outcomes - “Will this get me closer to what I want?”

When we started sharing lesson previews, we gave people a window into that clarity. They could see how the course was laid out. Hear the tone. Get a taste of the experience before committing.

If you’re selling anything educational or service-based:

  • What are you gatekeeping that could build more trust if shared?

  • Can you show your process, a behind-the-scenes peek, or a mini-sample?

  • Could you turn part of your offer into a free preview or worksheet?

Transparency builds confidence. And confident buyers don’t hesitate.

So next time you’re tempted to hold everything behind a paywall, consider giving them something real to chew on first.

Information is readily available. Transformation is the premium offer.

Why Giving Away Value Builds Trust

We’ve all been told some version of “don’t give too much away for free.”

When in reality, value isn’t diluted when it’s shared, it’s amplified.

When we opened up parts of our curriculum, we didn’t just give people a teaser, we gave them a reason to trust us.

The logic is simple: if this is what you give away for free, imagine what’s waiting behind the curtain.

When someone sees the quality of your thinking, the clarity of your teaching, or even just how organised your materials are, you stop being a stranger and start becoming a guide.

Here’s something you can try this week: Pick one part of your offer that people never see until they buy.

  1. A training video

  2. A worksheet

  3. A checklist or framework

Then… share it. In a post. In an email. On your sales page.

The Power of Community and Accountability

You know what doesn’t come with a YouTube video or a Google Doc?
Momentum.

You can consume all the free content in the world, but what gets people to actually follow through is feeling like someone’s got their back. That they’re not doing it alone.

That’s where accountability and community come in.

When people join our courses, they’re not just getting theory, they get feedback, community and a space to ask questions - plus some cheering (sometimes with gifs, always with heart).

You may be adding your own spice through live sessions, reflection prompts, honest convos in the chat… the kind of stuff that makes a lesson stick because it’s lived, not just watched.

If you’re selling something, it’s time to step back and look at how you can build a premium offer:

  • Where can you build in feedback, check-ins, or co-creation?

  • Can you offer live Q&As, peer support, or even a Slack group?

  • What would make your audience feel like they’re part of something, not just buying into it?

People aren’t buying your knowledge.

  1. They’re buying the experience of how you help them apply it.

  2. They’re buying the confidence that they can do it, with you beside them.

  3. They’re buying the feeling of finally moving forward.

And that’s what we’ve been building into everything we do at Alt Marketing School, especially our upcoming Summer School series.
